What to expect of saunagus at Plugin Heat Club

Saunagus is a popular wellness activity in Denmark, where participants experience a combination of sauna and aromatherapy. A saunagus session typically lasts 75 minutes divided over three rounds with a dip in a cold plunge and then back to the heat.

Or a DEEP session with calm, meditative and restorative energy. We help you to inner peace with great music, heat and cold, and an unexplainable vibe. 

What a program looks like

Arrival 15 minutes before

Check-in, change clothes and say Hello!

3 rounds of saunagus, lasting 10-15 minutes

3 “breaks” with the option for an ice bath.

What to bring

Remember to bring your own towels, swimming trunks and a water bottle. It can be a good idea to also bring a robe, slippers and maybe some snacks. It is required to sit on a towel in the sauna, and it is a good idea to bring an extra one to dry off with, because the one you sit on ends up wet. It is also required to wear swimming trunks or a bathing suit in the Plugin sauna. We have changing rooms where you can change before and after, and store your belongings during a Saunagus. It is important to remember a water bottle, so you can stay hydrated. It is possible to buy a Plugin bottle at the reception, if you forget yours or want a new one.

Music in the sauna

Music plays a crucial role in the saunagus at Plugin. It is used to elevate the session, to enhance the feeling we are trying to bring depending on if it is a grounding DEEP session or an energizing HIGH session.

Music is a key element and therefore we use SOUNDBOKS, to ensure a high quality sound throughout the entire session.

Tips: How to handle a saunagus at Plugin

Prepare yourself before you come. Remember to drink plenty of water up to a saunagus and get something to eat. It is a good idea not to eat directly before or atleast a heavy meal just before. Get here with time to spare. We recommend arriving 15 before, but if it is your first time trying saunagus or trying it at Plugin, can it help to arrive a bit earlier to have time to find your way around the zone, check in, maybe talk to the receptionist and get ready for the sauna session. 

The heat in the sauna can feel different depending on where you are located in the sauna. In a sauna with one level, the temperature is often a tiny bit lower next to the door and in saunas with more than one level, it will get hotter the higher you sit in the sauna. Please always bring a towel to sit on in the sauna.

You can use your breathing to guide yourself through the heat. You can handle more than you think! Our facilitators are always there to guide and help you through a saunagus session.

Between the three sauna sessions, there is time to cool down under the shower or with a dip in the cold plunges. Please shower off before going into the cold tubs. 

After a saunagus, you are welcome to say and socialize. Sometimes, if there is not scheduled a saunagus in the sauna right after, you can hang around for a bit in the heat. 

Tips for Socializing in the Sauna (Respectfully):

  1. Mind the Sauna Etiquette: In many cultures, saunas are quiet spaces meant for relaxation and contemplation. If you’re socializing in a sauna, be mindful of the noise level. Keep conversations respectful and at a moderate volume to avoid disturbing others. At Plugin, low social conversations in the sauna are accepted before and after, but during the session we require total silence for optimal immersion.
  2. Maintain Comfort and Boundaries: Everyone has different levels of comfort when it comes to being in a sauna with others. Always respect others' space and personal boundaries.
  3. Balance Socializing and Self-Care: While socializing in the sauna has its benefits, remember that the primary purpose is your own health and well-being. It is okay to enjoy a quiet, solitary session every now and then, especially for stress reduction and mental clarity.

How do we train our facilitators?

Many people opt for a half-day “Gusmaster course” but not at Plugin. Here, the focus is not just on oils, heat or fan techniques; it is about guiding individuals back to their core, to a place of peace and focus.

Plugin facilitators are trained in an extensive program. Over the past seven years, this program has included education in sauna rituals, cold water therapy, breathing techniques and meditation from some of the world’s leading experts.

All our facilitators are individuals with distinct personalities, personal journeys and heartfelt stories. What unites all Plugin facilitators is our passion for giving and creating the right conditions for better health.
