Do you need any prior sauna experience before trying Saunagus?

-

No prior sauna experience is necessary to participate in Saunagus, though familiarity with sauna culture can enhance the experience. Saunagus is often a great introduction to sauna culture because it is guided by a trained facilitator, who leads you through the experience step-by-step. The facilitator will ensure you are comfortable and help you adapt to the heat and breathing exercises, even if you are new to saunas.

If you are completely new to saunas, it is good to be aware of the general sauna etiquette and how your body reacts to heat. For example, it is important to listen to your body and take breaks if you feel too hot or lightheaded. But overall, you do not need to be an experienced sauna-goer to enjoy the benefits of Saunagus!

Breathing Techniques and Relaxation

Saunagus often involves breathing exercises, and while you don’t need prior experience with controlled breathing, it can help if you’re open to trying techniques that promote relaxation, such as deep belly breathing. If you are unfamiliar with these techniques, the facilitator will lead you through them in a gentle, easy-to-follow way. If you are new to breathing exercises, don’t stress about “getting it right”—just focus on staying relaxed and following their cues.

Aromatherapy Sensitivity

In saunagus, essential oils are often infused into the sauna air for aromatherapy benefits. If you are new to aromatherapy, be aware of how your body reacts to certain scents. Some people find essential oils like eucalyptus, lavender, or citrus to be incredibly soothing, while others might be sensitive to them. If you have allergies or sensitivities, let the facilitator know beforehand so they can adjust the oils to your preference.

Mental Preparation

Unlike regular saunas where the experience might be more about relaxation and heat tolerance, saunagus is a more guided, sensory experience that encourages mindfulness, deep relaxation, and mental clarity. It is helpful to approach saunagus with an open mind and a willingness to try something new. If you are a beginner, it may take a few sessions to get used to the combination of heat, scent, and breathing exercises, but it can be a deeply rewarding practice once you find your rhythm.

Listening to Your Body

One of the most important things when trying Plugin (or any sauna experience) is to listen to your body. If at any point the heat feels too intense or uncomfortable, you should exit the sauna and take a cool-down break. Since saunagus can involve high heat and humidity, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed if you are not used to such conditions. If you are new to sauna, it is always okay to take it slow.

Hydration

Whether you are a sauna pro or a first-timer, hydration is crucial. Saunagus can make you sweat significantly, so it is important to drink water before, during, and after your session. Proper hydration helps prevent dehydration, which can lead to dizziness and fatigue.

Adjusting Expectations

Saunagus is about sensory immersion—the heat, the scent, the atmosphere, and the breathing exercises all come together in a holistic experience. It is different from a regular sauna where you might simply relax and sweat. Saunagus is often a more guided, interactive, and multi-sensory experience, so if you are used to regular saunas, be prepared for a new layer of mindfulness and intention.

You do not need prior sauna experience to try saunagus. If you are new to saunas, it is helpful to start with shorter sessions and gradually build up your heat tolerance. Saunagus is designed to be accessible for beginners, and the guidance from a trained facilitator will help you feel comfortable as you navigate the experience. By listening to your body, staying hydrated, and being open to the process, you can have a rewarding saunagus experience even if it is your first time.
